We are two-thirds of the way through July and running nearly 1.5 inches behind normal rainfall for Charlotte. We are 4.6 inches behind year to date, which, of course, should be expected if you put in a lot of time and money on a project that needs rain. Last year, when I needed less rain to help move the home building project along, we were 4.5 inches ahead of normal.
Fortunately the drip system is operational and helping keep the vines in good shape. I ran it for five hours on Friday and again for three hours on Sunday evening.
The drip heads create an easily identifiable ring of moisture at the base of the vine, which provides a good sign of where the water is dripping and how the system is working. This morning on my walk through the vineyard, I noticed a couple of heads are a little too far from the vines and need to be revisited with the"goof plugs" and the punch tool. I will pull the drip head, plug the existing hole and move the plug closer to the base of the vine.
The bottom line is that the drip system has been worth the money; I'm very happy with the decision and the performance of the system I selected.
