The weather for the last half of December has been highly unusual. Much of the East Coast has been enjoying 70 degree days and 50 degree nights. And for much of the time, fog and rain have been the norm.
As I write this post at 11 a.m. on Dec. 28, the temperature is 68 degrees with a 70 percent chance of rain. The forecast is the same until Jan. 1, when night-time temperatures are expected to return to normal with lows in the high twenties.
A few days before Christmas, I saw one street corner in south Charlotte where the cherry trees were blooming. Several of my fruit trees, undeterred by earlier freezing temperatures, did not drop all their leaves and now have what appears to be new leaf growth.
I'm curious what effect this kind of weather will have on the grapevines and fruit trees.
